Q & A
Q:

What should I do if I hear echoes and other noises during conversations?

A:

Try running the Wii Speak Test in the Settings Menu. If the test shows that your Wii Speak accessory is not functioning properly, select PRECAUTIONS from the Settings Menu or refer to the Wii Speak Operations Manual to make sure the accessory is set up correctly. If the test shows that your Wii Speak accessory is functioning properly, but you are still experiencing audio problems during conversations, the internet connection you are using may be very busy. Please wait for a while before trying again.

Q:

What should I do if the voice of the person I’m speaking with is too quiet?

A:

You can adjust the volume by using left and right on of the Wii Remote (see “11. Starting a Conversation”).  You can also try asking your conversation partner to adjust their microphone’s sensitivity settings by selecting MICROPHONE SETTINGS from the Settings Menu (see “9. Wii Speak Settings”).

If neither of these options helps, there is a possibility that an air conditioner or fan near their Wii Speak accessory is causing audio problems. Please ask them to ensure that no air is blowing directly onto the microphone.

Q:

What should I do if my conversation partner says they can’t hear me?

A:

Try adjusting the microphone’s sensitivity settings by selecting MICROPHONE SETTINGS from the Settings Menu (see “9. Wii Speak Settings”). You can also ask your conversation partner to adjust the volume of their TV by using left and right on the of the Wii Remote (see “11. Starting a Conversation”).

If this does not work, there is a possibility that an air conditioner or fan near your Wii Speak accessory is causing audio problems. Please ensure that no air is blowing directly onto the microphone.

Q:

How can I stop the conversation temporarily if I get a telephone call or there’s some other interruption?

A:

Press on the Wii Remote to turn the mute function on (see “4. Using the Wii Remote”). Please note that if you only mute your TV’s sound, your conversation partners will still be able to hear what you’re saying through the microphone.

Q:

Will there be times when I might be speaking with someone I don’t know?

A:

If you’re the host of the conversation, you’ll only ever be able to speak with people who you’ve registered as your Wii Friends. If you’re in a conversation where one of your Wii Friends is the host, it is possible that a person you don’t know may join the conversation. However, this would always be one of your Wii Friend’s registered Wii Friends, and the host would have approved this user joining.

Q:

How can I tell if one of my Wii Friends is using the Wii Speak Channel?

A:

If you have ticked each other in your Address Books (see “7. Registering Wii Friends”), you will appear in each other’s Lobby in a blue circle, indicating that you are currently using the Wii Speak Channel.

Q:

When I’m sending photos, the transmission seems to stop and never finishes sending. Why is this?

A:

The internet connection you are using may be very busy. Please wait for a while and then try again.

Q:

When choosing someone to send a voice message to, I can choose Wii Friends who don’t have the Wii Speak Channel. Will they be able to hear my voice messages?

A:

You can send voice messages to Wii Friends who don’t have the Wii Speak Channel. They will be able to hear the message by opening the message on their Wii Message Board. They will also be able to see any photos you send with your message.

Q:

I’m worried that people who aren’t my Wii Friends will be able to tell who I am speaking with. Is there a way I can set the Channel so that people who aren’t my Wii Friends won’t know who I’m speaking with?

A:

Users who aren’t your Wii Friends will not be able to view your status or who you’re speaking to. This information can only be viewed by your Wii Friends if you’ve ticked them in your Address Book. If you would prefer to withhold this information from one of your Wii Friends, simply untick them in your Address Book.

Q:

Can I play music in my room while I have conversations using the Wii Speak Channel?

A:

The Wii Speak accessory will pick up the music, which may cause your conversation partners’ voices to echo or drop out.

Q:

Will the cost of using the Wii Speak Channel be added to my phone bill?

A:

The Wii Speak Channel adds no costs to your phone bill.
