Q:

I hear echoing and other noises when chatting.

A:

Try going to Settings and running a functionality test. If the test shows that your Wii Speak accessory is not functioning properly, go to Usage Precautions in the Settings menu or refer to the Wii Speak instruction booklet to make sure your equipment is set up correctly. If the functionality test shows that your Wii Speak accessory is functioning properly, but you are still having difficulty chatting, it may be that the line connecting you to the Internet is very busy. Try chatting again at a different time.

Q:

The voice of the person I’m chatting with is too soft to hear.

A:

You can adjust the volume of the TV by using left and right on on the Wii Remote controller. (see p. 4) You can also try asking the person you’re chatting with to adjust their microphone’s sensitivity settings (see p. 9), found in the Settings menu.

If neither of these options work, there is a possibility that wind from a heater, air conditioner, or fan is blowing directly onto your chat partner’s Wii Speak microphone. Ask them to set up their equipment so that no wind blows directly onto the face of their microphone.

Q:

My chat partner says they can’t hear me.

A:

Try adjusting the microphone’s sensitivity settings (see p. 9), found in the Settings menu. You can also ask your chat partner to adjust the volume of their TV by using left and right on of the Wii Remote controller. (see p. 4)

If this does not work, there is a possibility that wind from a heater, air conditioner, or fan is blowing directly onto your Wii Speak microphone. Please set up your equipment so that no wind blows directly onto the face of the microphone.

Q:

If I get a sudden telephone call or other interruption when I’m chatting, how can I stop the chat temporarily?

A:

Press on the Wii Remote controller to mute the Wii Speak microphone. (see p. 13) Please note that if you only mute your TV’s sound, your chat partners will still be able to hear what you’re saying through the microphone.

Q:

Will there be times when I might be chatting with someone I don’t know?

A:

If you’re the host (see p. 12), you’ll only ever be able to chat with people whom you have registered as your Wii Friends. If you’re not the host of a conversation, a person you do not know may ask the host to join the chat. However, such a person would always be a registered Wii Friend of your Wii Friend.
*The host of a chat approves who joins the chat.

Q:

How can I tell if one of my Wii Friends is using the Wii Speak Channel?

A:

If you have each other checked off in your address books (see p. 7), you will appear in each other’s lobbies as online (see p. 10).

Q:

When I’m sending a picture, the transmission seems to stop and never finishes sending.

A:

It may be that the line connecting you to the Internet is very busy. Try sending again at a different time.

Q:

When choosing someone to send a voice message to, I can choose Wii Friends who don’t have the Wii Speak Channel. Will they be able to hear my voice messages?

A:

You can send voice messages to Wii Friends who don’t have the Wii Speak Channel. They will be able to hear the message by opening the message on their Wii Message Board. They will also be able to see any photo you send with your message.

Q:

Is there a way I can set the channel so that people who aren’t my Wii Friends won’t know who I’m chatting with?

A:

Information such as whom you’re chatting with and your online status will only be conveyed to the Wii Friends you’ve checked off in your address book. If you’d like to withhold information from someone, simply uncheck them.

Q:

Can I have music on in my room while I chat?

A:

The Wii Speak microphone will pick up the music, which may cause your chat partners’ voices to echo or drop out.

Q:

Will the cost of using the Wii Speak Channel be added to my phone bill?

A:

The Wii Speak Channel adds no costs to your phone bill. However, a broadband Internet connection is necessary to use the Wii Speak Channel, so this must be purchased separately through a provider.
